The Osteria was founded in 1967 in the historic centre of Naples, under one of the most famous theatres in the city. The founder, Don Vincenzo, a man of great courage, former director of two locals had a dream: a small family business where the watchword was welcome and well-being on a human scale... but it was a woman the muse of the project: Donna Carmela, his wife, from loving ways and from the solid and appetizing kitchen. From his love, linked to the most authentic Neapolitan tradition and from ancient recipes learned by the mother (in turn pupil of her own and so on) arose delicacies that quickly became a myth, so that, after only 2 years from the inauguration, The tavern expanded its premises, continuing an unstoppable march. Today the Osteria is run by Rosario, the last of the four children, who continues with passion the work, aware of the great inherited responsibility, certainly not lacking in gratification: still today, many of the customers, then students of the nearby faculties University students who frequented the tavern, love to come back here and remember the lovingness of Donna Carmela, and of her traditional dishes.

La Campania è la regione italiana più ricca di vitigni autoctoni e così anche i vini soddisfano ogni gusto: dai bianchi freschi e profumati (Falanghina, Catalanesca, Asprinio…), a quelli strutturati (Fiano, Greco, Pallagrello…); dai rossi beverini (Piedirosso…) a quelli potenti (Aglianico che diventa Taurasi…) oltre ai famosi Lacryma Christi, Gragnano, Furore e alle nuove DOC del Cilento così ricche di profumi marini. Osteria da Carmela ha provato, nella sua Carta dei Vini a ricreare questo caleidoscopio di varietà, includendo anche bollicine, passiti e qualche doverosa incursione nei territori extracampani.
Opere pittoriche, fotografiche e multimediali che, nel tempo, Rosario Gargiulo, oste con arte,
ha selezionato, raccolto e mostrato ai propri ospiti contribuiendo così alla loro diffusione.
Dal 5 Dicembre 2016 è iniziato un nuovo percorso artistico divulgativo:
l’Osteria è divenuta anche spazio di esposizione per artisti emergenti e non del panorama partenopeo.
